SELF – REFLECTION – THE TOOL OF THE SOUL

SELF – REFLECTION – THE TOOL OF THE SOUL

SELF – REFLECTION – THE TOOL OF THE SOUL

“Self-reflection is the experience of the Self looking at itself.” /Katha Upanishad/

How do we come to understand how powerful is any choice we make in life?

REFLECTION – MANANA (Sanskrit) – is the mastery over the power of seeing and acting. Self-reflection is also called “seeing behind”, where we are the Observer and the Observed. It is a skill-building technique, that would lead towards self-awareness, self-discovery, and self-understanding.

When practiced daily for 5 minutes it helps us to recognize how do we respond to the world, and how do we respond to our own experiences, thoughts, emotions, feelings, and believes.

Also, helps us to understand how to move from an imagined reality towards what really is faced in life. Practicing daily will help us to build objectivity and will lead to refining our perception. The big question we are trying to answer when self-reflecting is:

Is the authentic me the one that Reflects, or the one that Performs the actions?

HOW DO WE PRACTICE REFLECTION?

Sit in a meditative asana or any comfortable position.

  • First, we start to reflect on our actions
  • We have to reflect in a sequential and chronological order.
  • Not judging.
  • Not giving qualificatives good and bad.
  • Not analyzing: Why, Where, when.
  • Not looking for a prize.
  • Not making impressions, or imidges.
  • Staying detached.
  • Not taking anything personally.
  • Be the Observer!

For example, a good reflection will take from 5-10 minutes. If we do it in the evening we start to reflect with morning actions.

Ones we master self-reflection on our actions the second step would be to self-reflect on our emotions; “What was the emotion when I was walking this morning to work?”

The third step would be to self-reflect on our thoughts; “What was I thinking when I was driving to work this morning? “

“ When I drove this morning to work and felt happy I was thinking to help Joan to finish her project”

Self – Reflection is the exercise of the soul that allows us to receive guidance from inside.

We need exercises for the soul, as much as we need exercises for the physical body.

Let your Soul/Self guide you!

Warmly,

Maria
