Yoga Therapist: Maria
"I met Maria one and a half years ago. One day a new Yoga teacher arrived in the Yoga room. Maria takes a Yoga class to a whole new level. She has a gentle manner and talks quietly. She takes you through the poses slowly...you will achieve an Advanced pose without even thinking. Maria will adjust your alignment, she will move around the class and help individual students. She will take time to talk to you after class. Your zest for living will improve. Don't want to get out of bed in the morning...wake up and do Yoga with Maria. Is your teenager going down the wrong track...send him/her to Maria. Yoga with Maria is a life changing experience."
“Maria is an exceptional yoga instructor. She possesses a wonderful combination of knowledge, empathy and positivity. After practicing yoga for more than 10 years, Maria gave me the tools and knowledge to take my practice to another level. I highly recommend Maria as a coach whether you’re a beginner, a more experienced yoga practitioner or have specific health concerns.”
Maria Mitea embodies a real mind, body and spirit connection in her yoga practice. She generously shares her deep understanding of how the breath, body and mind should flow together from the very basic to advanced yoga positions. Classes are varied and provide just the right level of challenge for a broad range of yoga practitioners. During a yoga class, she will quietly spend the time with each student to provide additional instruction and knowledgably adjust technique as needed with the appreciation that each person’s practice is their own. Maria weaves insightful yoga philosophy into each practice guiding the power of your thoughts to a place of quiet reflection and well-being. I come away from her classes with my body feeling limber, refreshed and my mind rested. I would highly recommend taking yoga classes from Maria, you will be glad you did!
"Maria consistently inspires me with her thoughtful, spiritually uplifting words, and her attentive, nurturing instruction and monitoring. She has a genuine, sincere, warm presence in and out of the yoga studio, and a curious nature that propels her toward continuous learning and growth. I have a tremendous respect and gratitude for her and her strong work ethic, dedication, and passion for exploration and delivery of effective stretching and building of limbs, muscles and souls."
"I have attended several of Maria’s yoga classes and thoroughly enjoy them.
Maria has a broad and deep knowledge of yoga. She is able to communicate calmly and clearly what she knows. She can speak to how the body works on a physiological, emotional and psychological level. More importantly, she
is encouraging, nonjudgemental and makes you feel good about what you are doing. At the end of a class, I always feel calmer and more relaxed."
"Maria is an advocate of a healthy mind and body. I've personally enjoyed working creatively with her to find ways to bring yoga into lives through a language and venue that invites and inspires.
Maria has been an amazing and approachable yoga teacher at the YMCA, and continues to be a strong and valuable influence in the Kingston yoga community. Her, experience and body of knowledge is a treasure trove that she is willing to share in the true spirit of yoga, and the connection we inherently have with the world around us."
"After each session, I feel as if I have worked hard. After 4 sessions my lower back, shoulders and legs feel stronger. Proper breathing feels very good and especially at night when I cannot sleep. Maria explains the poses well and in a soft voice."

"I first met Maria when she came to work with me. As a physically disabled individual, I found Maria to be very understanding and accommodating. She treated me as a person first and worked with me, providing for all my physical needs, emotional support and soon her friendship. She has a true gift when it comes to helping others."
"Being very new to the practice of yoga, I can get lost in larger classes. This is not the case at Health Yoga. The classes I've taken at Health Yoga offered a lot of one-on-one assistance to guide and enhance my practice. My breathing is becoming stronger and I am developing a deeper connection between my mind and body. Maria is an excellent instructor and guide for the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga."
I have been practicing yoga for 15 years and Maria is one of the most skilled yoga teachers I have had. She is very knowledgeable and careful, always paying attention to her student's alignment, and respectfully suggesting adjustments. She exemplifies yogic philosophy and encourages her students to examine themselves. I have learned a great deal from Maria. I highly recommend her!
I have taken a number of classes with Maria and the first thing that comes to mind about her practice is that this is her vocation. She teaches the entire philosophy of body, mind and spirit of yoga. You will not be disappointed if you have the opportunity to attend Maria's yoga practices.

Great program for anyone suffering from pain. Great teacher. I really enjoy this form of yoga. Maria teaches all different yoga.
I met Maria over a year ago. During the course of that time, I’ve had a couple of significant injuries including a pinched sciatic nerve. Maria’s understanding of human anatomy is extensive as is her ability to modify poses to suit an individual’s abilitiy. She adjusted movements to help strengthen muscles to decrease the possibility of reinjury. My posture has also improved significantly since practicing with Maria. Maria has a gentle yet thorough approach to not only the physical aspects of yoga, but also the spiritual and mental components. Her goal is to provide the best experience possible to both the brand new yogi or a yogi who has practiced for years. Because she has studied many styles of yoga, Maria is able to offer guidance so you can decide which you want to pursue. On a personal note, I took breathing for granted before beginning yoga. I have learned how important it is when faced with situations that cause stress. Breathing can help lower your stress level if done a certain way. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found such an expert who is so willing and able to share her knowledge and passion for yoga and overall health.
